The Girl You Lost - Kathryn Croft

Eighteen years ago your baby daughter was snatched. Today, she came back.

A sinister and darkly compelling psychological thriller from the No.1 bestselling author of The Girl With No Past.

Eighteen years ago, Simone Porter’s six-month-old daughter, Helena, was abducted. Simone and husband, Matt, have slowly rebuilt their shattered lives, but the pain at losing their child has never left them.

Then a young woman, Grace, appears out of the blue and tells Simone she has information about her stolen baby. But just who is Grace – and can Simone trust her?

When Grace herself disappears, Simone becomes embroiled in a desperate search for her baby and the woman who has vital clues about her whereabouts.

Simone is inching closer to the truth but it’ll take her into dangerous and disturbing territory.

Simone lost her baby. Will she lose her life trying to find her?

What did I think?

I raced through this book as it was so fast paced, gripping and well written.  Simone and Matt’s 6 month old daughter, Helena, was being taken out for a walk by her proud grandmother.  Her grandmother felt ill and turned her back for just a second, only to find that Helena had been taken from the pram.  18 years later Simone is approached by Grace, who claims to be Helena, and Simone experiences a wealth of emotions – excitement and hope mixed with doubt and apprehension.  Simone is willing to believe but Matt is not convinced that Grace is Helena, so when Grace goes missing it is Simone who experiences Helena’s abduction all over again.

I was completely hooked by this story; it is every parent’s nightmare to have a child abducted, even worse to be abducted whilst in the care of a grandparent.  Simone has to cope with not knowing whether Grace is Helena, along with trying to find out what happened to Grace when she goes missing.  As Simone investigates Grace’s last known movements, she uncovers a lot more than she bargained for and puts herself in danger along the way.  Without realising it, or having any proof that Grace is Helena, she acts as any mother would when trying to find her daughter.

I really enjoy Kathryn Croft’s books, having previously read The Girl With No Past.  They are pacey and exciting with lots of twists and turns, some guessable twists and some not so guessable.  Almost impossible to put down, The Girl You Lost is another great psychological thriller from Kathryn Croft.

I received this e-book from the publisher, Bookouture, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
